Nurton starts on new strategic land site

Work has begun on a 50 acre strategic land site owned by Birmingham based Nurton Developments, as part of its commitment to bring a much needed medical centre to a local community.

The Holywell Spring Farm scheme located at junction 13 of the A42 (M42), is one of a number of strategic land sites Nurton controls throughout the region. The other major site being in Burton with planning consent to create up to 2,500 new homes, and 1 million sq ft of employment space creating up to 3000 jobs.

Matrix Medical is developing the new modern medical centre and pharmacy on the site in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, which will also include also house a 65 extracare facility, up to 400 homes, a primary school and a small retail unit.

Rupert Young development director at Nurton Developments said: “It’s great to finally see work commence on site after a long period of planning and consultation. The medical centre is just the start of what will be a fantastic scheme for the local economy with the creation of jobs and also the introduction of a new community through the development of new homes.

“Our masterplanning vision was to create a sustainable development that will provide an extension to the existing town. We’re currently in discussions with a number of housebuilders who are keen to take the scheme forward.” he added.

Ashley Seymour, development director at Matrix Medical, said: “We are delighted to be on site and seeing the building take shape after a number of years in the making.

“The new facility is designed with the long term in mind and will be able to accommodate a wide range of services, improving access to primary care in the area.”

The medical centre is scheduled to be completed in January 2016 and will serve over 14,500 patients. The development is being funded by Assura, supported by NHS England, and constructed by Wildgoose.
