Sustainability Goals

At Nurton Developments, we aim to deliver buildings and places that meet the highest standards of environmental, health and wellbeing standards. With over two decades of experience in value-add investment, strategic land promotion and sustainable development, we recognise the importance of Economic, Sustainability and Governance (ESG) to create high quality environments for occupiers and communities which in turn add value for investors.

Our Commitments

Environmental

Environmental

We aim to minimise our environmental footprint by prioritising sustainability across our investment, development and strategic land activities. Through proactive active asset management, refurbishment strategies and responsible land promotion, we seek opportunities that build-in long-term resilience and reduce carbon emissions. Careful consideration is given to materials and technologies that support energy efficiency and low-impact performance.
Social Responsibility

Social Responsibility

We want to create buildings and new communities which enhance the lives of the people who use them. Our focus on high quality commercial space, thoughtful urban extensions and community-centred developments reflects our belief that better environments support wellbeing and productivity. Partnering with local contractors who align with our values and focussing on initiatives which deliver positive impact to surrounding local communities is integral to how we deliver social value at every stage of the development.
Governance and Transparency

Governance and Transparency

We uphold the highest standards of governance and transparency in how we operate, drawing on decades of market experience to manage, reposition and deliver assets that meet and exceed industry benchmarks including BREEAM, LEED and EPC ratings. Our work is underpinned by best practice in environmental performance, occupier wellbeing and asset management, supported by visible outcomes in our projects and ongoing lettings activity.
Case Study — Branston Locks
One of the UK’s first large-scale, sustainable ‘family friendly’ urban extensions.

The 400-acre mixed-use Branston Locks scheme is one of the first large-scale urban extensions to be delivered in the UK. When complete, the sustainable new community will offer 2500 homes alongside one million sq ft of commercial space. The former agricultural land is being transformed to include extensive green infrastructure encompassing a 70-acre hillside park and leisure corridors with open spaces for sports and recreation facilities managed by the Lands Trust. Development of a new secondary free school has been completed and a primary school, and village centre including provision for the elderly is also planned.

When we identified the opportunity and acquired the land, the Local Planning Authority was not considering it for development but had applied for Growth Point Status as the town had a desire to grow and change. We promoted the site successfully. Once it had a draft allocation for development, we brought in a 50:50 equity partner. We secured outline planning consent in 2015. We now act as master developer to ensure a positive long-term legacy is delivered for the community and are already partnering with four developers to create over 900 new homes. We intend to directly develop out the commercial element, known as Quintus, ourselves, and have recently agreed a funding package with a US based investor to create 235,000 sq ft of industrial & house buildings in three units

Supporting Environmental and Social Value

The new bridleway demonstrates how strategic development can unlock long-term community benefits. By opening up previously private land, the scheme provides:

Increased access to green infrastructure

Safe and accessible routes for horse riders, walkers and local residents

Enhanced biodiversity corridors linked to National Forest planting

Opportunities for outdoor exercise and improved wellbeing

The route also connects users to an area rich in local heritage. It passes beneath Sinai Hill, home to the historic Sinai House the oldest property in Burton and through land historically associated with the Paget family and later Bass Brewery, whose brewing wells once operated at Lawns Farm along the route.

Creating a Lasting Legacy

By integrating public access, environmental enhancement and heritage connectivity into the wider masterplan, Branston Locks demonstrates a commitment to sustainable placemaking. The delivery of Public Bridleway 16 not only strengthens the local rights-of way network but creates a lasting community asset that will serve residents and visitors for generations.
